Minigun vs Laser Cannon: which should you choose?

Compare Minigun and Laser Cannon base damage, fire rate, Gem budgets and upgrades, then choose a heavy weapon for your Survive a Million Monkeys loadout.

Contents

Choose Minigun for its high fire rate and the $2,500 cash step during a run. Choose Laser Cannon when you are ready to spend 250,000 Gems on a heavy weapon with higher base DMG/S. If you already own Minigun, we recommend considering its 20,000-Gem first upgrade before switching your saving goal to Laser Cannon.

Laser Cannon's base 700 DMG/S is 95 above Minigun's 605, or about 15.7% higher. Minigun leads on the displayed Fire Rate: 1,100 versus 600.

When to choose Minigun

Choose Minigun when your priority is a heavy weapon with a high firing rate, or when you are following the cash weapon progression during a run. Its 1,100 Fire Rate is the highest value in the weapon stat table.

For run planning, the recorded next-weapon buttons show Shotgun for $150, Burst Rifle for $750, then Minigun for $2,500. Save toward the next weapon while keeping cash available for health and the abilities you use. The late-run HUD shows Minigun at MAX.

If you already own Minigun in the lobby and enjoy using it, improving that weapon is a smaller immediate Gem commitment than starting a 250,000-Gem Laser Cannon purchase. Check the upgrade preview and your class-skill budget before spending.

When to choose Laser Cannon

Choose Laser Cannon when you want a late-game heavy weapon with 700 base DMG/S and can commit 250,000 Gems to its unlock. It is our higher-base-damage choice between these two weapons.

That damage lead comes with a lower displayed Fire Rate: 600, versus Minigun's 1,100. Use the lobby's TRY control to decide which firing style you prefer before making Laser Cannon your saving goal.

During combat, maintain an escape route while firing and move before the horde closes around you. In co-op, coordinate with the teammate covering the stairs so that both players have space to retreat.

Should you upgrade Minigun first?

Upgrade Minigun first if it is already your regular weapon and you want to keep using it. Level one costs 20,000 Gems and changes these values:

Stat Base Level one Increase
DMG/S 605 646.3 +41.3, about 6.8%
Fire Rate 1,100 1,175 +75, about 6.8%

At level one, Minigun is 53.7 DMG/S below base Laser Cannon. Laser Cannon's 700 is about 8.3% higher than upgraded Minigun's 646.3.

The upgrade improves a loadout you already use for 20,000 Gems. Laser Cannon's 250,000 Gems buys a different weapon. Pick the upgrade for an immediate improvement to an owned Minigun; save for Laser Cannon when that new weapon is your goal. See weapon upgrade costs.
